Rules of BIG Green Commuter Challenge

Rules of the BIG Green Commuter Challenge

Here you'll find an overview of the main rules of the BIG Green Commuter Challenge (BGCC). To view the full rules for 2011 please click on the following  Rules for Gosport

Organisations that can take part

  • Gosport based businesses (with PO12 or PO13 postcodes)
  • Organisations outside of the Gosport area (PO12 – PO13) that do not fit the above criteria may be able to take part in a neighbouring local authority area, e.g. Portsmouth City Council.  Check on your local authority's website to see if they are running the Challenge - you should refer to the rules for that area.
  •  Where an organisation has numerous sites they are welcome to encourage all employees to take part.  However only the employees of Gosport site(s) will be able to participate, record their miles online, take advantage of the travel discounts and enter the prize draw.  Any employees working at sites across the UK can only take part unofficially.

Members of the public

While the main aim of the BGCC is to work with businesses, members of the public will also be able to take part. See full rules.

Winning organisation

The winning organisation is the one that demonstrates the highest mileage saved per member of staff employed. This will allow smaller companies to compete against larger companies.

What we provide

We will supply leaflets and posters (mainly in electronic format PDF with a limited number of paper copies available) and guidelines.  Participants will be able to record their miles online, which will reduce admin. work for the inhouse co-ordinator.

What we expect of the organisations that take part

Each organisation taking part will be required to nominate a co-ordinator who will be responsible registering their organisation's involvement, internal publicity, collation and recording of results where employees do not have access to the internet. The co-ordinator must ensure that all participants have recorded their miles online (this will go live in the week of the Challenge in May).

Where employees do not have internet access, the co-ordinator will add their miles on their behalf by the closing date.
